EmaraTax – FTA portal 2.0

“FTA: The transition to the new platform was done seamlessly in an effort to ensure all current users can easily navigate EmaraTax.”

What is EmaraTax?

The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) on 5 December 2022 had launched its newly integrated and fully developed digital tax administration platform named “EmaraTax”. The upgraded portal is believed to provide a better experience for taxpayers managing their tax obligations.

Why EmaraTax?

“Launching the new platform is a milestone in the Authority’s ambitious plans to become a leading digital authority in the tax sector, marking a notable leap forward towards advancing the UAE’s tax system.” – FTA director-general Khalid Ali Al Bustani

The FTA, in a press release, stated that with the introduction of the new portal all services would now be made available to the taxpayers (existing as well as new) considering the latest technologies that are being implemented in the tax field around the globe.

The new platform would provide smart solutions for the sustainable improvement of customer experiences, allowing for seamless, round-the-clock access to all FTA services from any location.

EmaraTax is intuitive, easy to navigate and offers improved self-help options for when you need assistance. It will also be available on mobile in the form of application.

EmaraTax will enhance our ability to administer taxes in the UAE, enabling better, faster decision-making and earlier engagement with taxpayers that need support.

EmaraTax integrates with influential government entities such as the UAE Central Bank and national technology-based programs including UAE PASS to streamline user experience. This also aligns with the national digital agenda to leverage emerging technologies and build a solid digital infrastructure that serves the people and business community of the UAE.

Would it affect the existing taxpayers?

The migration from old electronic system to the newly integrated portal has been done seamlessly. As a result, all accounts of the existing users and the data therein has been successfully transferred to the new platform. This will enable the existing users to use the new portal with ease, having no effect of the transition on the transactions carried out by any of the authority’s customers.

Which services are available on EmaraTax?

All FTA services which were available on the old platform would now be available on the “EmaraTax”. This includes

  • Registration/De-registration services,
  • Submission of Tax Returns,
  • Tax Refund services,
  • Payment of outstanding taxes for all registered taxpayers,
  • Submitting reconsideration requests
  • Other allied services

How to access EmaraTax?

  • If you already have a registered account with the FTA, then your account will be transferred to the new system automatically and you do not need to sign up. If you have never been registered with the FTA, then you will need to sign up as a new user.
  • You need to visit on https://eservices.tax.gov.ae/ to access the FTA’s online services. This web address will remain unchanged even after the transition to EmaraTax.
  • The existing FTA account details will automatically be transferred to EmaraTax. The existing user needs to simply reset the password to access EmaraTax for the first time.
  • All notifications issued to existing users by the FTA will be available in their account under the “My Correspondence” section.

Efforts by the Government

In order to enhance the communication with taxpayers and customers and educating them about the main features of the EmaraTax platform, the FTA holds a series of virtual webinars periodically to train users on how to navigate through the new platform, get answers to any inquiries, and overcome any difficulties they may encounter.

These sessions will outline the steps needed to reset the password for each registered user, and how to submit Tax returns and pay outstanding liabilities for both value-added tax (VAT) and Excise Tax.

EmaraTax webinars are available for access by anyone. If you were unable to attend a webinar, you will be able to find a recording of the event on the “calendar of events” section of the EmaraTax webpage.
